Figure Skater

Milaya has recently taken a pretty strong interest into Ice Skating. About a month ago, when the olympics were on T.V. she was watching the athletes intently and said to me, "Mommy, someday I want to do that with my husband." Then she ran to her bedroom and put on her bathing suit, because that's what they wear out on the ice ya know, and asked Daddy to ice skate with her around the house. It was absolutely adorable! Well, this interest continued. Day after day she asked if she could REALLY go ice skating, but since we had a lot of issues with things breaking down on us and being without a car for a whole two and a half weeks, we really couldn't make the time to go. Until recently! We took Milaya ice skating for the first time and she did AMAZING! She was so excited. Even after I told her that she couldn't wear her bathing suit to the ice rink and that it would probably be a little hard, not as easy as it looks on T.V.
We started her out with a bar she could hold on to so she wouldn't fall and she did well. She went about 1/4 of the way around the rink and told me that she didn't want her bar anymore. We finished our lap, then got rid of the bar.
We were skating along and all of a sudden she just let go of my hand. She wanted to do it ALL by herself. I was shocked that she even had the guts to get rid of the bar, let alone my hand. But, she did it! She didn't even fall once! Granted it took us about 10 minutes to get around 1 time. But even so...SHE DID IT!
I could tell she gained more and more confidence because after a while I noticed her start to turn in circles... I asked her if she was okay and if she needed help and she told me that she was twirling! Oh my word! It was her first time on the ice and she is already feeling confindent enough to start doing tricks! I was beside myself. When we had to go, she was a little bummed, but we decided since this was an interest that she came about all on her own, that we should encourage it.
We signed her up for lessons that go every Monday for about 30 minutes (which isn't long enough for her, of course) for 7 weeks. She had her first class this week and she did GREAT! She was the ONLY kid on the ice that never fell once! They obviously were just learning the basics, but everyone needs to learn those too!
Like how to get up from falling. It is so much fun to watch her do what she has such a strong desire for and being so naturally good at it.
Pierson on the other hand didn't really want to watch all that much. He was just busy making Daddy chase him around.
He still made himself part of the action. Everytime we took a picture of Milaya he would do exactly what she did and say "cheese!"
I can't wait to see what comes from this, if anything. I am just glad she has found something that she enjoys SO much! Who knows, maybe someday I will be watching my own little figure skater on T.V. If nothing else, she's already made a friend!
